Reaching Cult status almost immediately after hitting the market, the Dear Frances Spirit Boot has been a staple in many a fashion icon’s wardrobes over the past few years. Casual or dressy, edgy or cottage-core, these boots are the epitome of versatility. But, for those of us that might be on a bit of a budget, or if you’re just not quite sure if you’ll wear them as much as you think you will; pulling the trigger on a $600 price tag can be a bit daunting.
Now I am a firm believer in paying for quality and at the end of the day you can’t beat hand-stitched Italian leather, you just can’t, its a scientific fact. But I’m also a believer in investing in pieces that I will wear to death. In the case of the Dear Frances Spirit Boot I just wasn’t quite sure how it would fit with my wardrobe, and so began the dupe hunt.
I wanted a pair of boots that would give me a good idea of what type of wear I would get out the Spirit boots and if it would be a worthwhile investment for me. They needed to have the goldilocks heel of block heels, not too short, not too tall, perfect for everyday wear, which for me is roughly 3-3.5 inches. I needed to have soft black leather that wasn’t too shiny or textured. And I needed to have the perfect toe (I HATE square toes on myself but I also don’t like a true round toe, so it can be quite tricky).
After weeks of scouring the web, I settled on Tony Bianco pair that ticked just about every box. The heel is a tad bit chunkier than I’d prefer but other than that, perfection. I am happy to report that so far I am LOVING them, and I’m just about ready to pull the trigger on the real deal. eek!
For those of you that are not quite there yet, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite look-alikes that I stumbled upon when looking for my alternative pair. With a few variations and pricepoints, fingers crossed you find your goldilocks pair!
UPDATE the boots below are mostly sold out, however, I’ve rounded up a few others that are in stock here
