I’m on my fourth Golden Coil Planner so I believe it is high time for a Golden Coil Planner Review. Now, I am a self-professed planner SNOB. I’ve used them all. I have also been known to buy several planners within weeks of each other because I hated one after only a week or so of use. So to be on my fourth of the same planner is quite serious. Should probably buy a ring soon…
What is Golden Coil?
Golden coil is a customizable planner, they do have other products but for the purpose of this review, we are talking specifically abou t the customizable planner. When setting up your planner you have almost total control (I say almost because you can choose page layouts but you can’t change the specific layouts themselves) Don’t let that deter you though, the options for customization are quite extensive. You can select
- The Cover
- The Start and End Date
- Customizable Cover Page
- Contacts pages that you have the option to pre-fill
- You can upload events directly to be printed into the planner (never miss a birthday again!)
- You can add pre-set dates such as US Holidays or Food Holidays
- Choose from a variety of Double Page Weekly Layouts, Single Page Weekly Layouts, or Daily Layouts
- Choose from a variety of Calendaring layouts, Lifestyle layouts, Health layouts, Project layouts, or Standard layouts. Additionally, you can choose to add these weekly, monthly, or at the start or end of your planner.
- Add-Ons such as motivational quotes or productivity suggestions
The Finer Details
Let’s talk details.
- You can have a max of 242 pages due to the size of the coils they have available (trust me you don’t want it any bigger.)
- The planner dimensions are 7.25 x 9.75
- The paper used is Mohawk 80#, which is the same as the Erin Condren planner if you are familiar, and it is lovely (paper aficionado over here.)

My Golden Coil Planner Review & Set Up
I won’t lie, I’ve had four Golden Coils and four completely different layouts. There are a few consistencies though. I have always done a 6-month planner (I love having loads of extra pages for note-taking and brain dumping so I need the extra pages, and I love being able to start fresh midyear.)
I have also always used one of the weekly single layouts, currently, I am using the Horizontal Half 4, which features an extensive to-do list section, as well as a habit tracker, gratitude tracker, and a few free areas for brain dumps.
I like to include a weekly social media planner as well as some dotted paper weekly for social planning and random note-taking (or conference call doodling) I find this cuts down on the number of sticky notes I have scattered around my life and is easier for me to keep track of than random notebooks.
At the beginning of my planner I include a “Year at a Glance” page which is where I keep track of birthdays and events. I used to include a “Goals” page but I found I wasn’t using it all that much.
The end of my planner is where all the fun stuff is (business in the front, party in the back?) I have a reading list, travel planning pages (one of my favorite golden coil add ons), fitness trackers and then a wholeeeeeeee bunch of lined paper. Ok, so it’s really not all that fun…
My Favorite Planner Accessories
No planner is complete without accessories. The ONLY pen I use is the pilot frixion .05 or .03 pen. It’s erasable (yay!) but it doesn’t tear up your page as some erasable pens do! So you don’t have to worry about any spelling errors or canceled plans. I also love the pilot frixion eraseable highlighters (I really only use the lavender one, it’s just too pretty!)
All in all, I am thrilled with my latest Golden Coil. I love the idea of being able to track habits and gratitude weekly without needing a separate notebook. I cannot recommend this brand enough and I don’t see myself straying to another planner anytime soon.
