Essential oils are EVERYWHERE these days, essential oil infused, this and thatcelebrity uses oils. You’ve probably seen them on instagra. They’re kind of everywhere. But, what exactly ARE they?
What are Essential Oils?
They’re just that, oils. Essential oils are the liquids distilled from different parts of plants like the seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc. Think of them as the lifeblood of the plant.
When plants are grown in the right conditions, harvested at the perfect time, and distilled with the utmost care, they can aid in supporting our bodies natural wellness and keeping us happy and healthy.
Not all Oils are Created Equal
How a plant is grown and harvest and then how it’s oil is distilled are extremely important. There are easy, cheap ways to do it, but the quality of the oil suffers. Big time. A lot of companies will add in other oils and chemicals to make up for which is not good. All of those factors mean that a lot of oils on the market are really not that great, and what is even more mind blowing is how easy it is for companies to slap a “100% pure” label on their bottles, when their product is definitely not 100% pure. Scary fact, there is no one regulating the essential oil industry so be picky with what you choose to use. I personally will only Young Living oils. Why? Because they are transparent about all of their practices. Go ahead, call them. You can walk right onto any Young Living farm, you can look around. You can ask questions, they will show you how they do EVERYTHING. No other company can say that.
How Do You Use Essential Oils?

I highly encourage you to take control of your health and to ask the questions that you need to ask in order to make the best decision for you and your family*
You can use essential oils in three ways
- Topical Application
- Aromatic Diffusion
- Ingestion
Topical Application
- Apply directly to skin
- Some of my favorite places to apply various oils – crown of the head, temples, behind ears, neck, upper back, abdomen, over vital organs, soles, and top of feet, ankles etc.
- Dilute with a carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, olive, sesame etc) and apply to skin
- a carrier oil is a fatty oil that down how quickly and essential oil absorbs into the skin
- Make diluted roller bottles or spray bottles with your oils for easy application
Aromatic Diffusion
- Diffuse single oils or oil blends using an ultrasonic diffuser. Ultrasonic Diffusers don’t heat the oils which helps them maintain their efficacy!
- Inhale straight from the bottle or from your hands
Ingestion
Young Living is the only essential oil company that has has a special Vitality Line which has been FDA approved for ingestion!
- Add one drop to a teaspoon of honey, you can take it alone or you can add it to your tea
- Use vegetable capsules and fill with several drops of essential oil to take internally
- Add flavor to salad dressings, teas, smoothies, and even baking (add a few drops of peppermint to your favorite brownie mix, you won’t regret it, pinky promise.)
- Add to water for a refreshing hydration session (my current favorite combo is grapefruit and lime)
